Themaps below show changes that took place in Youngsville in New Zealand over a25-year period from 1980 to 2005.

Discovering Trend 1

•It was obvious that the numberof trees dropped dramatically from 1980 to 2005 .

•All the houses along therailway line were knocked down.

Introduction

The maps show the developments which tookplace in the costal town of Youngsville between 1980 and 2005.

Main Body 1

In 1980, the town was a much greenerresidential area with a large number of trees and individual houses, but duringnext 25 years the town experienced a number of dramatic changes. The mostnoticeable is that all of the trees south of the River Alanah were cut down,with all the houses along the railway line being knocked down and replaced byskyscrapers. Moreover, a new industrial estate with factories andwarehouses sprang up around the airport and school.

Main Body 2

Only a few trees north of the riverremained. The woodland was cleared to make way for a park, a golf course, andcar parking facilities. Further developments were the construction of astadium near the north-east corner of the lake and a new stretch of railwayfrom the river running directly north. A marina was also built at the mouthof the river.

Conclusion

Overall, a comparison of the two mapsreveals a change from a largely rural to a mainly urban landscape.
