With the booming media industry, the masses today can easily gain access to a vaster range of news items than ever before, especially those concerning crimes. However, growing concerns have appeared that reporting violence may exert negative influences to the public; therefore, it should be strictly banned. In my oponion, I agree with this.
It is sometimes feared that the extensive media coverage of crimes may lead to an increase in copycat crimes. After watching these reports, those who do not obtain sound minds, especially the youngsters, are more likely to copy these activities without knowing the consequences. What’s worse, they even perceive criminals as idols. As a result, they may take it for granted that it is correct to tackle conflicts with others by violent means. Additionally, frequently reporting crimes may, to some extent, cause social panic, although the public have right to know. More seriously , the scare among citizens may even bring about chaos to the normal social order, disrupting the pace of life.
Many people would advocate that for potential criminals who plan to commit a crime, a large number of reports may lead them to be aware of the severity of such behaviours, thus underlying danger actions can be avoided. However, the effect of this contribution is minimal. Some mearsures like improving unemployment rate and installing more cameras can be more effective. To be more specific, if people fall into the plight of unemployment, the income they earn would be insufficient to support a single individual or even a family. Therefore, the incidence of theft may climb. Thus, to keep people busy in their jobs cound not ony bring them a great sense of fufilment but also reduce potential theft issues. Also, if more cameras are installed in every corner of the city, abundant evidence and proof can be collected in order to combat crimes.
In light of these factors ,it is worth doing that reporting crimes should be appropriately curtailed in the media. However more new thoughts like improving unemployment rate and installing more cameras can be given priorities.
